Looks like what they are doing is adding steelhead habitat in the middle of the river.  Juvenile and adult steelhead like holding behind boulder clusters.  The stuff closer to the bank is probably for protection.

If they wanted habitat, they'd be anchoring more logs.  Those rocks look like "barbs", which are supposed to deflect water/debris arount things or protect banks.  They also serve to create eddy's or resting areas for fish.  Barbs are better habitat for fish than the standard armoring of banks by adding rip rap.

gong show, atleast it will take pressure off the other places in the river. I love the canyon, and a few spots on the lower.

I am going up to have another look on sunday and get some more pics to post :). Nice fish troutbreath . Must have given you a good go on the flyrod.

nice fish, not to coloured up. way to go. I still like riffle water better than anything.
