the 2 3/4 #246 is the ticket but have had some success with the 286, 287 and 434 all in 2 3/4 inch sizes.... barfished with a single spreader and 2.5 to 3 foot leader... you want a spot with a bit of current, slack water will do nothing for the action on these plugs. Will work in the upper fraser above mission as well.

i don't see why a guy couldn't 'Pull' these same plugs with a boat in the current.
try the confluences of any of the rivers.... stave, pitt, chilliwack, harrison.... gold hammered crocs work good too just trolled or cast retreived from the boat. In good flowing current, you could probably put the plugs out and just anchor up with enough weight to get them down..... it works with 4 inch flatfish for steelhead and springs on some rivers.

One thing not many guys talk about on the fraser is 'pulling plugs' like they do on the skeena area rivers. the same principals will apply..... find suitable current to work the lures.... find fish... be it on the sounder or by spotting surface activity... and give it a whirl

Unlike pink salmon, chum salmon do not bite readily in the tidal portion of the Fraser River, but they do bite at times. Most of the time, you'll find large masses of fish moving through at great speed during the incoming tide. It doesn't matter how many casts you do, those moving fish will not pay attention to your lure. Once awhile, and I don't know what triggers it, their mood changes to the other end of the spectrum. There have been a few days in the last ten years while spinning in the Tidal Fraser when chum salmon just wouldn't stop biting a spoon. October 15th, 2003 was one of those days. On that day we managed to catch freshly arrived pink, chum, coho salmon and one cutthroat trout at a spot in Richmond.

I've also caught chum salmon while fishing with roe, but most of the time you just get coho salmon, which isn't a bad thing.

Green coloured spoons have worked best in the past, but I've seen chum salmon caught while pink salmon fishing late in the season with orange or pink coloured spoons.

On the fly, my experience with chums is that they'll take the colour pink just as much as they would take chartreuse.
