Peg Leg / Vedder Sept 20
« on: September 20, 2007, 07:50:00 PM »

Me and my friend wanted some flyfishing action on the pinks. Went to Peg to take a look at the fast section even though our intended spot would be at the slower water above. But the action of the bb fishers was slow at the fast section, nothing like before, probably due to the commercial opening in lower river. We decided to head to the Vedder instead. Found a run loaded with pinks and had a blast on the fly. My friend kept a nice buck still with silver flashes and no hump, but I released all my catches, most not in good shape for retaining. Went down to the Crossing & saw CO there checking people. Nice to see them around. Heard of a nice hatch coho caught there. The hatchery already has lots of coho there. These are the early runs most people miss. The later runs are slowly arriving, as we can see some ho's hanging around the tail outs mixing in among the pinks. Time to get your coho gear ready.  ;)  Tight line.

Thanks guys. I may add that the water is quite clear and low. It is not like the normal Vedder level we used to see. If people are standing at the bottom of the dyke at the Crossing, then you know how low the river is right now. If not for the pinks moving in masses and finding it safe to blend in with them, I doubt the ho's are willing to head up river at this water condition except perhaps at night.

Couple of years back there was a guy selling coffee and snacks from his truck at Lickman Road. I thought it was a great idea because he became the eye and ear of the parking lot.
