Looking for a Centerpin
« on: September 26, 2007, 12:23:10 AM »

Hi guys, since i sold my previous centerpin outfit i'm in the market for a new one. I had a trophy previously and it was just not smooth and not fun to fish with. Any suggestions on reels. $300 dollars max. I like the Raven Matrix seems like a sweet reel but the spool is a little small.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Another vote for the KF. Well worth the money even with the new pricing. Try to get a used one.

Small in what way? diameter or spool depth/line capacity? I have the Raven Classic 4.5"(shallow spool, but holds enough line/no backing required) Bought it at Reaction for just over 3 bills. Very similar to an Islander (I have just held, never fished) in the hand.Has a solid back and small amount of porting on spool face to reduce debris intrusion. What really sold me was that the clicker worked(harder out/ softer in) for holding the rod with the right hand and reeling with the left. If  "new to you" is o.k. you could probably find a good cond. used Islander for around $300 or a good Avon for around $175-$250(two of them on the fish b.c. buy and sell right now)

i cant find the avons. Used is fine, but i'd like it to be smoother, lighter and hold more line than the junk used trophy i had.

I say go Islander! I have two of them and have never looked back! You get what you pay for when it comes to CP's.
