I was camping in campbell river BC. it just got dark i was the only 1 fishing all alone on the shore. I had my dinky little walmart trout rod with 6lb test as i was fishing for pinks. i thought i was going to be skunked for two nights in a row. i decide to take 1 more cast before i headed in my dad was probably going to spaz at me. before i know it WHAMMMMM i get a huge strike.i say in my head man this must be a hugggggggggggggggge pink. after long runs and a 55 minute fight i get the fish on shore. walk back to the camp site wiegh it........ it was a 26lb beautiful chrome spring. this is amazing considering the creek mouth i was fishing at doesnt even get a run of springs up it. that is my most memorable story and i dont think i will ever forget it.

Good story. Where were you fishing? I know allot of those places including the Campbell River itself has no retention of springs.

Also a 55 minute fight is not really something you want to do, especially if there are fish in the system that are closed to retention. If you catch a fish after that long of a battle and its is not retainable, that fish is most likely going to die.

I am not trying to rain on your parade just trying to help.

no it was open for sure my dads friend whos a proffesional guide in campbell river told me..it wasnt my fault it was a 55 minute fight my rod was almost at a 90 degree angle and i almost got spooled twice.

Only one river open for gear and retention and its not in campbell river. Was it the puntledge? Gotta check the regs never take someones word. Nice fish though.

generally the tidal boundary on MOST flows is a specific landmark, upstream from the body of water it empties into. In other cases it will be markers showing a boundary line, we are all familiar with these types boundaries. SO if fishing a creek mouth you are not necessarily fishing the flow itself... you are indeed fishing tidal water.

don't let folks bust yer balls  .... sounds like you got yourself a REAL nice fish with a heck of a fight to go with it.... good for you

I didnt read that properly my bad i thought it was a creek mouth entering the river. If you got that casting in the ocean near a creek mouth then good on ya thats a great catch. Most if not all pinks are in the flow spawning but hey a spring like that beats pinks any day,

that is amazing. on the fraser i use 50 lb main line and 30 lb leader to catch the big springs. you must have had a good bank to land him on . im very surprised that your line didnt break. i like to play them too. run down the bank while reeling and bring them in when they are tired.
