perfect water today, and great conditions. For those in the rain in Vancouver, Chilliwack was dry, not a drop. BUT..no fish anywhere. What a change from last week. me and wintersteel started up river, there were actually coho to be seen jumping and showing but not one hit on our roe or blades. we moved lower and lower on the river and  never saw anyone with fish. Even the chums were scarce.

anyone have better luck?

No saw lots jumping Coho and Chum but they all had lockjaw.  I saw one dark chum brought in and I had one strike but other than that nothing.  This is getting ridiculous four trips out and only two bites

Yes nice conditions, tried for a while at first light and got my first jack coho of the season, usually find more than that. My partner got a small wild coho and we had a few other chances. Going for the evening bite now and will report back condition later. Raining hard now.

We had a good day. Well, I had a good day, I hope my three companions had a good day too. I did not plan to fish today, but Shane insisted that I needed to be there to find his first Fraser Valley coho salmon, so I reluctantly got up at 4:30am for another first light outing.

Water condition was fantastic as some have mentioned. The rain held off in the morning, which made the fishing much more enjoyable.

The bite was on at our run right away as expected. I first landed a wild coho salmon, estimated to be around 4lb. A couple of misses later, I beached a hatchery coho salmon between 6 and 8lb. It was impressive to see two gentlemen landing 5 fish on blades as well. In total, seven coho salmon were landed in our run, plus a few losses. There were quite a few chum salmon milling about now. I also landed my first adult white chinook salmon of the season today. The coho bites died off at around 9:00am. We fished until 1:00pm with only a few chum and jack chinook salmon to show. I had one good coho hit on the spoon around noon. We also saw one very large coho salmon breaching on the surface three times. We all agreed that this fish was easily in the 20lb range.

We fished mid river. The upper river seemed crowded as there were so many cars heading up there at first light. 28 hooked and 13 landed as of today, the excellent coho season continues. Good luck.

Just a heads up for anyone considering hitting the river but worry about not being able to get there at first light. Saturday was the forth trip in a row that I got there after 1:30pm and have landed 4-5 chrome coho each time on Blue Foxes. Took home three chromers after 3 hours Saturday afternoon and still can't beleive how clean these fish still are!
I beleive the trick isn't neccessarily first light but simply finding a hole where the fish haven't been either spooked or fished out already that day. If you can't be there first light then be prepared to walk to the more remote spots. Keep moving if you don't have any luck within 15-20 minutes otherwise you're wasting your time in my opinion. Always always always keep checking your hooks to insure they're tacky sharp and re-check your drag setting. After I took Brad's advice of changing stock hooks to Gammis and added the swivel between lure and hook I landed 4 of 4 on Saturday.
Lot's of good fishing left yet and weather this week is going to turn perfect.

Out with friends again first light.  We, weekend warriors, only have a day or so to fish each week before the season ends.  Last week was great for me.  I had 3 wild and 1 hatchery coho so we decided to go back to the same spot.

First cast, nothing, second cast, fish on.  Did not get the chance to see it cause it was still kind of dark.  10 seconds later, it was gone.  Bites were on and off.  I finished fishing my 3/4 lbs of roe with a few hook up, long line releases, and landed 3 wild coho.  Since there is no roe left, it is time for the blade.  Right away, another wild coho was landed.  At the end of the day, the blade caught me in total of 2 wild coho and 1 colored chum.

Total catch for me today from 6:45am - 3:00pm 5 wild coho, 1 chum, 4 hook ups.  All the fish were released.  Eventhough I was trying to take a fast picture for one of the bigger wild coho, for some reason, it always slip back in water before the camera is out....

And I kept telling myself the next one is going to be hatchery

As I said I got out for the evening bite, all 15 minutes of it but nothing to show for it. I did something I have none done for years, taking two poles with me one with a colorado blade on it. Fish were surfacing and mocking me but that was it but nice to see lots of fish in the system.

I know they are lots going through as the crowd at Tamahi were sure hauling them in with nice ones lying on the bank and others alive and tied up with rope. Another issue to try and deal with.

Back to where I was fishing I even got so disperate I phoned Rodney to find out what part of the run the fish were in.

"Top of the run, close in for the bait and the bottom of the run for the blade", nice tips as no bites   but tomorrow will be another day as most of you will be slugging it out at work.

No, really- sometimes a bit of rain can blow the whole river and it has been raining for almost 3 days and the river is still fishable. Can't wait until Friday again. In the meantime, I will visualize my float going down throughout my workweek.
