Stave River

That is a very short river so my question is where do the fish spawn? Along the shore and little runs on the side of the river? If they do spawn around there than their environment is not protected at all. There are thousands of people wading in their water stirring up sand and trampling eggs. I've seen people throwing rocks at the fish in one of the small streams.  Why no fish ladder? If you build a dam build a fish ladder to the lakes above.  :-\

Chum salmon are shallow spawners, so basically in the shallows along the shoreline. Egg mortality by anglers stepping on redds exists, but not to the extent that it is a conservation concern.

They also have a large spawing channel up near the dam

Most of the dead eggs will probably come from later arriving fish spawning and digging up earlier spawner redds.
