I share the same gear as TH.  We swap back and forth.  He casts and then it's my turn.
And, when I cast, I have to switch to a 8' leader with a 3 ounce bouncing betty because TH likes a 10' leader. So he has to switch back to his leader.  Takes us the entire day to cover the Keith Wilson bridge.

Yeah but then you don't fish it, you just cast over my line and let me lead the way down!!! And don't b.s. me, that coffee grinder is a mitchell and worth at least $30!!!!

i have float fished quite a bit with a OKUMA EB50 bait runner.... for big trout on the Thompson. Worked as well as the average baitcaster.... just don't over fill the spool with line or it will be a mess till you've cutt some tangles out.
I've tried several "baitrunner" reels.... and that EB50 is the closest thing to a baicaster action than any i've seen and used. I may just try it this winter with an 11ft spinning rod on the stamp just for kicks.

My go-to right now is a 10'6" Lamiglass MHC-P rated 10#-20# with a Raven Classic loaded with 12#.Back-up is a Convergance 10#-20# with a G&Y Avon R.S.          In answer to troutmunchers question: my go-to spinning rod is a 10' MH rated 12#-20# (a medium action rated to 17#-18# would be o.k.) with an Okuma Epixor 40 with 12# line.As Rod said a longer rod is better for float fishing but spin rods in that length are some times hard to find/limited selection. Look for one with the reel seat a little lower on the blank than average-this helps you hold the rod higher when float fishing. As for the freespooling problem I have found for myself that it is FAR better (smoother/line stays tighter to the float) to turn off the anti-reverse and reel backwards to let out line on the drift. Try using a Gibbs #3 gold or silver colorado spinner/4" pink worm/Jensen egg(orange or pink) with peach wool.
