i am looking to buy an all purpose bolt action hunting rifle, to hunt all game, up to 250 yards.  i shoot a parker hale 30-06 now.   the rounds I'm looking at are :  270wsm, 7mmwsm and .300wsm.


any help is good thanks.

Dude dont go with the .300wsm.. all you get is a shorter action and more expensive bullets... Go with a 300 win mag.. similar ballistics to the .300 wsm  and is a great all around gun.. i have the remington 700 sps dm in 300 win mag... you wont regret it

why not just shoot with your 30-06? spend the 1000 on accurizing and comfort accessories, optics?
the 30-06  is arguably one of the best performers on all b.c. big game out to 400 yards. There is so many choices as far as bullet design and bullet weight for everything from coyote to moose. When comparing 270, 7mm rem mag and the 30-06...... ballistically and lethal performance within 400 yards are close enough that you are nearly splitting hairs.  my advice..... save your money..... or you may be asking yerself why you wasted a grand on a gun that doesn't perform any better than the one you had. If accuracy of the actual rifle is not up to par..... have it headspace checked by a gunsmith, and maybe a new bolt or maybe a new barrel.
Parker Hale rifles are great..... and lots of parts are out there for accurizing..... have a look at canadiangunnutz.com (add the www), parts, info, great community. Most guys there will tell you the same thing.
If you're still not convinced........ get yerself a 7mm rem mag...... in a remington 700 action or my favorite... Steyr Manlicher

He is correct ...keep the 30-06.
That rifle will never let you down.

go with a 7mm in weatherby caliber not remington, (bigger bullet, flatter shooting, higher velocity) or go with a 300 winchester caliber, made by who ever u want, best all around gun on the market.

  Hey limit Time , If you can try out the short list of rifles you like . Now days most hunters are sucked in by the "Magnums and macho calibures". Most of these biggy boys don`t realize that when squeezing the triggers of their "magnums" their brain is saying "Don`t Hurt Me" and creats a shootig mess . That 30-06  has the greatest viarity of bullets (I think) of any calibure and most handle the recoil OK .

i think a 7mm or a 300 mag is just fine, shoot the biggest caliber ur most comfortable with, that u wont be afraid of, that u wont jerk the trigger or close ur eyes when u shoot, the worst is when u tense up cus it moves the gun and u shoot off target, i shoot a 7mm weatherby and i can take the 300 weatherby aswell, all depends on what u personally can handle. U cant kill an animal more than dead, and i'd feel way more confident with a 300 than a 270 on a grizzly, moose, elk. 1 beacause i have the firepower to bring it down, and 2 i dont need to empty a box of shells into it to kill it, one shot one kill.

Its all about shot placement, even if you have the big calibre, you still have to hit your target in the vitals. and a 270 with the proper load will handle any of the big game you need it to, just as easy as a 300

ya u need to be able to shoot straight and hit the target, why do u think i talked about flinching and stuff, but i have a neighbor who's hunting buddy was mauled after he put three 7mm cartriges into the chest of a grizzly. I would rather have the 300 where i could shoot a 200 or a 180 grain bullet rather than a 150 or 165, except with my 7mm weatherby MAG!    where i'm using 175's. Like i said, make sure u the gun fits u, not the other way around it needs to feel good, comfortable, and u can take the kick/recoil.
