Lol.... guess your not the best fisherman on the river now Chris, the seal has the upper hand though I guess  ;)
Thinking about going out this afternoon to try my luck... good luck to every one going out today  ;)

You were to slow buddy. If you had showed up on time, we would have both walked away with a hatchery.  ;D

Noticed a little jump in the water this morning, water still very clear. A few rods getting a last try for a late running steelhead before it closes at the end of this month.

Its not closed, just no fishing bait. Time to bring out the fly rod.
Hopefully the last try presents itself as a good one.

Hopefully there is some fly only season to actually fish, normally within a few days the river is blown, and freshet starts. The opening is really kind of a joke...

Fingers are crossed!

Cheers,

Today was not too bad.... River came up about 6 inches while I was there and was getting increasingly cloudy..
Day started off with clear water and by the end 2 feet visibility was about all that was left.
The fish seemed to be moving as I got 3 good hits, but the hits were so short the reaction time had to be dead on, I only actually hooked into one and that was for a very breif time. Tried going through with a different bait right after the bite, but didnt get anything else after the first hit. Hopefully the last two days will turn to be good, that is if it stops pouring rain in Chilliwack, hopefully the river stays about this height with 2-5 feet visibility and the fishing should be good (fingers crossed)

Me thinks that the fly fishing may be good next week with the higher water probably bringing new fish up and the fact that there will be no fishing pressure should mean the fresh ones will hit anything presented. Good luck to everyone trying their luck the next 2 days!

By the gauge at Vedder Crossing it is up 10 inches. We had very heavy rain last night so that could account for the rise.

River in freshet now, high and colored too so forget about trying any fly fishing for a late steelhead.

Saw a fellow floating down river in an inner tube by the Hydro Bridge. ??? ::)

What a moron..... the river is soo high and dangerous right now.... you could harldey see a foot deep on Thursday, I can't imagine what it would be like now...

HE IS ALONE,
he can't see anything under the water ahead of him that might catch his tube,
I have seen trees pop up randomly when the river gets high and turbulent by bouncing off the bottom, etc

Imagine a tree coming up from under you and flipping you in the water.... NO ONE ELSE TRY THIS, atleast until Jul/Aug anyways (when we do it, don't forget to say hi) And if you are going to tube the Vedder make sure you scout out your route before you go, 2 years back we hit a log jam in fast water, and believe me, it's not very fun living with a grade 4 concussion.
