The end of my coho season
« on: January 13, 2008, 05:38:41 PM »

Long time no-post for me.Thought this was worthy of breaking my silence. Was out at the Chehalis checking for steel last weekend (Jan 6) when this robbed me of one roe bag and came back for seconds    nice chrome hen with pearl belly and tight skeins.Have had decent fish around Christmas before before but this is by far the latest and best for me.

Amazing catch this late in the season. Congrats. No wonder I didn't hook much coho during the coho season there. They probably were late for the 'appointment' like this one.  ;D

I'd be curious to how it tasted?  Friends of mine who have caught chromers in Dec. and Jan. call them "rubber death" because of their texture....soft, rubbery, and tasteless.  They sure look nice, though!

Was out today up my way and surprisingly saw some hoes kickin around. Talked to a guy from the hatchery and he told me they run until the end of February some years. I had no idea that they ran so late in the year. Nice fish for sure. ;D ;D

Yes coho July-March/chum end Nov 30/chinook end Dec.31 on the Chehalis. Have not eaten it yet.Cut up and vacum packed in the freezer.Meat looked better than other late runs I've kept/more bbq worthy than smoker material. Release was not really an option as it had swallowed the bait(rig placed on cheek for photo) and was bleeding badly.
