« on: January 26, 2008, 12:34:55 PM »

Global TV has been out at the controversial gravel bar excavation site at Spring Bar all morning and have just wrapped up the filming. From what the reporter has said if thing go ok the story should run sometime during the 6 o'clock news tonight.

I think what the boys said in the story as well as the coverage was good, it at least showed what is going on out there.

I too firmly believe like Marvin said in the news story it is all about money for the gravel, at the expense of the fish and fish habitat, that is really unsettling.

We must admire those that are giving so freely of their time fighting to protect our fish stocks in such important habitat rearing areas. They are the only ones involved in this that are not making money out of this, actually it costs them money and their free time to monitor the operation to try to protect this area.

We certainly have not learned from our past mistakes. When you look back into the past we see that so much fish habitat and the fish have been destroyed, all in the name of progress.

One just has to look how concerned governments are about global warming these days. This is such a hard thing to change and reverse. However things like this project can be just as destructive to our fish as global warming that is going on unabated. It is not only the destruction of the redds but the loss of these gravel bars that are very important for so many fish species that rear along them too.

Thanks to Vic and STS guiding who provided his boat today. A number of guide boats have and will be helping out in the days ahead. Thanks fellows.

PS The coverage may be repeated at 11.

The story is now on a video news clip on Global's web page.
