Easiest fish to catch in BC
« on: January 27, 2008, 10:07:24 PM »

Did the hardest, but what about the easiest BC fish to catch ounce for ounce, pound for pound.

I'm going for the bullhead. I've caught them with their mouth draped over the hook, and they are too lazy to let go. :)

Hatchery raised trout for the local lakes.

Crappies are really easy, once you find the school its on ! . High elevation trout are just as easy.

The way you've worded yur question could be construed as a little confusing.....do you mean the easiest to get a hookup on or once it's been hooked the easiest to land.  Once again, as others suggested pinpoint your question to a given area.  ie. Pacific Northwest   Otherwise you are going to get answers for fish from all over the world.

For me in the Pacific Northwest:

Easiest fish to get a hookup on would have to be rainbow trout....tough to hook over 50 salmon of any species in one outing yet you can do that with trout fairly often.

Easiest to get to hand would also be trout if they are the Fraser Valley 3N fish released in C&R lakes that allow for huge growth potencial....their bodies grow too big for their fins.  They can't jump, they're sluggish and there's very little fight in them. Its even worse once they've figured out that they're going to be released anyway.  I've caught lots in the 10 lb. range that don't even compare to a 3-4 lb. Kamloops rainbow, Girard, or Blackwater strain rainbow.

I've always found pike minnows easy, but hey tell me where those easy crappies are and I'll make a comparison. :)

Arctic Grayling!  Hard to find big ones though, for me anyways....also, have not fished them in bc, only Alberta but they are here too so i'm making some assumptions.

Its no secret, Whonnock lake in Maple Ridge is full of em. The real feat is to catch a trout amongst the hoardes of crappies. Just tuck in at the edge of the weed ring that lines the lake. Easy pickin's

sorry to hijack  :-[

The ones I caught this year in Whonnock were all under a pound aside from one or two. One FWR member caught one in Hatzic that was trophy size for these parts. It had to be well over two pounds. World record crappie was caught this year inthe US at over 5lbs. Their protective coating falls off if you handle them its quite disgusting :'(
