Anybody been up to squamish for steelies this year?  Hear anything?
How are the conditions on the squamish and cheakamus?

Looking for a little change of scenary and hoping to escape weekend crowds of the vedder....

You can compar to summer levels and maybe even judge if it will be blown out if you see a huge jump on the graph.

Way to early for Squamish steel and even if they were there it could be pretty tough to get them as the numbers are pretty low.It would be nice and quiet though. A good place to go and get away from any crowds with beautiful landscape second to none in the lower mainland!

The earliest I have caught Steelhead in the Squamish is Feb 26th. March and April is the time.

and just how good will it be this coming year? I think it's the first year for the fish that were not completely killed off by the chemical spill in the infamous train derailment a few years ago. Could be a pretty lean year up that way for steelhead.

in a fish count on the cheak they counted 27 already which is not bad considering there are only 127 dollies! that is nothing compared what there used to be. I dont think they check the numbers on the squamish though because it's too big

Wow...27 is more than I would have thought.
Thats enough to get me up there for a couple of days. (weather permitting)
I know the main run comes beginning of March.  But considering the
run is probably about 2000 fish, 27 counted is quite encouraging.

With the bait ban, I will finally get around to using some jigs.

The Squamish and tributary winter steelhead run is definitely not 2,000, not even 50% of that.

I know it is not the same system but it is close enough. I use the pitt river cam to see, the conditions, it the pitt is high and colored so will the squamish, Most of the time..

The check is a different story.. i look at the river levels there.
