Vedder - Feb 3rd - Short Trip (Picture Added)
« on: February 03, 2008, 09:49:46 PM »

Well, I drove out from Surrey this morning. Left the house around 6:10 and drove to the upper river all the while watching the outside thermometer dropping. By the time I got out of the vehicle at 7:20am, the outside temp was down to -5C (a wee bit nippley). First cast was around 7:30. The suspense was killing me. But no strike. I ended up fishing that hole for about 45 minutes and then decided to walk up the river about 400m, trudging through the frozen snow. ::) ::)
I scanned a few runs and didn't see any promise, but decided to cast into some ripples. The ripples were the only hiding place in this section as the water was quite deep and crystal clear. I could clearly see the bottom and I could see my wool as it floated downstream near the bottom of the hole. Suddenly I saw a small flash as my wool seemed to disappear. My float dropped under water and I struck hard. Now the fight was on.  ;D ;D The fish didn't come out of the water even once. It must be a buck I thought. I was right. Now the only question was, hatchery or wild? After about 5-6 mintes and a few strong runs, the fisg came to the surface where I could see its back...No Adipose..Sweet a hatchery fish. This buck had a bright red stripe and looked quite large. After two more shorter runs, I was able to beach the fish into a snowbank and the battle was done. 8) ;D
This fish was freaking awesome. It was now 8:45am and my day was done. I stopped in at Fred's on the way home to pop it on the scales. 17 lbs. What a fish... First meal was awesome as well.

Sorry No Pictures. No place to host them.

I used a chunk of orange wool about the size of my thumb nail.
Mikeyman, sorry you didn't have any luck after I left. NEXT TIME  :)

Nice, I saw the fish and can confirm it was 17lbs. I was fishing the top section before you landed it. Was going to fish the section thru when I saw you walk in and hit it, bugger! LOL, good job, would of been my fish I swear, jk. Fished the run thru after and nothing. First day I have been blanked for awhile, but on Sat. hit 3 and landed one and it was a brute as well, big wild buck around the same size, have a pick, will try to post later.  Need warmer weather and some rain!  Bring on the rain!

so he corked you?   :-X

becareful of what you ask for, if it gets too warm and gets a downpour you can write off fishing for a while. Snow melt and rain = disaster  for fishing.
