Listened to an interesting topic on the CBC radio about a major reduction in the tree replanting that is slated to take place this year. More in depth information can be obtained at cbcnews.ca. But anyhow I guess because of the downturn in the economy some of the logging companies want to postpone replanting forests they have logged. The number of trees(seedlings) totals to about seventy million which is one heck of a lot of trees. In addition, during the interview what was also mentioned is that under the current agreement the number of years that companies have to replant a forest has been changed from five years to now twenty years. So you can see what the fear is, if the replanting of these forests is continually postponed it establishes a dangerous precedent. Both levels of government, at the Provincial and Federal level do a lot of talk about saving our environment and combatting greenhouse gases, but one of the simplest solutions is to plant more trees, not less. Makes you wonder who is driving the bus.
