Squamish River February 28th, 2008

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. ;)

Seeing that we had a sunny break between storms, I dropped by the river this afternoon for the first time this year. Some were wondering how the road condition is. It is not good beyond the power house. I took a glance and turned around immediately so I wouldn't have attempted stupidity and got stuck. ;) limited access by walking is of course possible but only if you enjoy plowing through snow that is two feet deep. Water clarity was great, not extremely clear despite of its low level, especially once it was shaded after 2:00pm.

I managed to hook a bull trout briefly and with two headshakes it freed itself and returned to the log jam. A 1/8oz orange striped spoon tempted it. First BC fish for 2008 will have to wait for a few more days, or perhaps a few more weeks.

Despite of an unproductive day, it was therapeutic as usual. I was able to fish 2km of river without hearing a car or seeing another person. The scenery was not so bad either.

I tried to get up there yesterday. The single road through the snow is pretty rough. One guy actually got stuck in a volvo and I ended up pushing him out.Snow mobil and ATV access only right,or a good truck, now and looks like the snow will be there for awhile.
