Chilliwack River February 29th, 2008

We do not usually fish during the evening but decided to give it a try. Got to the lower end at around 3:30pm and saw two fish hooked - one way down below me and one in front of me. It was quite slow given the number of fishermen. As it was getting darker, fisherman started to leave. The wind and rain started to come and boy!!! did it come.......

Half hour before darkness, I look to the left where I was fishing and I saw a school of fish in the shallow-----a foot of water!@##@$. I could actually see them chasing each other like chums during October and November. I have NEVER ever seen anything like this before.

My buddy standing about 50 feet to my right started to see fish move around him too. And just before pitch black, they were starting to jump in front of us.

We tried drifting in a foot of water but the float will not move, hence no fish for us either.

To those venturing out tomorrow, I think you guys will have a blast.

That't prime time for fly fishing. My #1 tric for big preditor trout. Twilight shallows with a dry line.

Lots of fish moving up with the tides and i guess night fall
if you see a spot with lots of guys pounding the water forget it
they just push the fish away and they mostly wont bite
I fished a busy spot but i waited till most moved away then the fish moved back in and i hit a couple
just couldnt keep them on the line(there are some big fish arround)
check all the tail outs that have a bit of cover or a little pocket of holding water
and switch up your bait
Show them something different
unless they are fresh fish, they will take allmost anything

Talking about the tide in Chilliwack, does any body know how many hours it is lagging behind the Vancouver tide?

Common this time of year ... can be picky though .  if you see them they see you.  it is amazing to watch steel chase eachother around!!  I have some footage from last year from an under water cam i took from above boundry hole .. Amazing stuff .
