havnt fished the cap since i was younger wondering if anyone could help me out is there still coho in there or is it slowed right down?  And one more thing where do you park and where is the best place to fish on the river any help would be great thanks!!

Hi there Bushmaster, well the Cap is not acting the way it should for this time of year. Usually it would be reasonably productive by mid-June and one should with a little skill, a little luck and some good roe be able to get his/her limit. Alas, this year the stocks on the shelves are not as abundant as years past and catching one seems to be a chore. Myself and my nephew were up at 3:30 in the morning Sat. at the river and fishing by quarter to five at our honey hole and after six hours had not seen one nor caught one. we used the pretty much the same bait as I've used for the last 25 years at this river, primo pro-cured double red hot spring roe but as in
the previous 4 weeks we saw the same low results. Perhaps they are late, lets hope. But the later they are the higher the chance the water will drop in late June and with it the fishing opportunities. As far as parking on the river there are two pull ins on the left side of the road that leads to the hatchery. Explore At Your Own Risk. Not to scare you but taking chances on this river could and will cost you your life. There are many, many trails that lead deep into the canyon and to spots where there are less people but the cliffs are, well cliffs. If you are careful and take your time and not chances you might be okay. It does take some exploring and a little time to find them and I would suggest bringing a friend along, a rope just in case( I always carry 50Ft.
of safety rope in my pack, invaluable) some lunch and your fishing gear and make a day of it. If you don't mind crowds you could always fish right at the hatchery. Lots of parking and washrooms nearby. I would suggest first tho to download a copy of the Capilano
map which will give you a very good starting point of the various pools and trails. Someone on FWR should be able to help you out there as I hav'ent needed a map for a good many years so's I don't have one. One tip we like to use is once we find a special place we like to fish we pick our own name for it. If you just use the names on the map others could and will know of what and where you speak of. We have The Slaughterhouse, The Gator Hole, Blue Lagoon, The Slide just to name a few. When we say these names
we know exactly where were going but nobody else does. Well I hope this helps you out just a little and as I am getting set to head out to the Cap to try my luck once again I wish you luck and bid you adieu. I think I'll try The Slide today.

Thanks you verrrry much Atthezone your msg reply helped me out alot appreciate it.   Well i hope it gets better sooon or im just gonna have to work extra hard to get one but i dont mind that at all makes it that much nicer when u do finallly land one well i hope its good fishing for u today !!

sounds like a pretty poor showing of fish this year. I would suggest checking out the water up by the hatchery or below upper levels. just fish good bait or spinners to the new fish that can be seen moving into the pools. If lots of fish are moving the fast waster below cable pool can be fairly productive.

fish the little pockets and slicks behind the boulders and along the edges with bait or peach yarn.

the water level is important. its not good if the water is below two unless you are fishing with gear.

Are flyfishing opportunities on the cap limitied to the lower river?

I haven't fished the Cap in a few years, but in the past I generally had good success when the river level was up and fishing the slicks and pockets behind boulders (as said in a previous post). Also, if the river has been low for some extended period, and the fish are staging at the mouth, the lower river can be very good when the rains bring the river up. Also, timing the lower river on an incoming tide can help.

Does anyone know how often they send the fish holding at the hatchery up?
I like to stop by the hatchery every couple days to see how things are shaping up but not sure if I keep looking at the same fish or if they are new batches.

sad to say it but it is really slow on the cap , they just arnt there

from what i've heard the cap has been both okay and horrible.  From my experience it has been pretty slow but lucky people who have caught bigger pushes of fish have had luck.  Also I have seen that roe has not been working also from my experience and other people have told me the same, but as soon as you pull out the flies and lures they start biting. It is beyond me why but thats just from my experiences and what i have heard

There are about 50 fish in the tank in the hatchery, some 5-7 lbers. But there is hardly any rises in Cable Pool, nothing at the tail out when I looked at it a few days ago. Have not spotted anything also in the lower river and no kill marks on the shore of the hot spots like Nude Rock general area. So the fish are there but you have to be lucky when they come through. Nothing like those good years before. Hope the fish are just late.

Was at cable pool two nights ago and there were quite a few risers, but no takers for anyone around.  My previous two efforts had rewarded me with a small coho each time, but the fishing is slow.
