New Chilliwack Vedder Update
« on: June 28, 2008, 06:36:20 PM »

With the chinook fishery opening on July 1, I thought I would provide the river conditions when I am near it. Because of the recent hot spell it has jumped about 6 inches and visibility was about 12 to 14 inches when I looked at it around 7 o'clock this morning.

Also the rainbow (steelhead smolts) opens as well that day which I donot personally favor as some slow moving fish that are still migrating out are taken as well as some anglers take wild fish as they do not know the difference.

However I guess it can be a popular fishery for the younger angler which is great but there is some that abuse it. Hopefully the CO's will be out checking things.

Is there any enforcement on the river right now? 3 weeks ago and today Iv seen people fishing the river, and as I watched 2 of them fish they were sneaking fish back to there car one at a time.... no they where not fly fishing. Its not hard to find whos doing this, you can find people fishing it most weekends during this closed period....

I don't want to pick on anyone, but I constantly see people in here writing of infractions they witnessed and I never hear them mentioning what the CO said when they reported it. If you see someone breaking the regulations, report them, everyone caries a phone with them now, just take down their license number and report them. If you can't get a Conservation Officer call the RCMP they are supposed to cover fish and game violations too, at least at the end of the day you'll know you tried to do something, if you witnessed someone breaking into your neighbors house you'd call the cops, why do hunters and fishermen tend to ignore people committing crimes against fish and wildlife that affect them directly.
Rant over, now yes, way to go Chris we need way more people like you on our rivers every day, thank you for your reports I always find them valuable.  I'll be out trying for the Vedder Springs on the 1st. Chris you are definitely one of the people out there that are willing to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to getting things done and if it weren't for people like you the rivers around here would be a sorrier place indeed.

I think a lot of people think that it won't make a difference and that the response time will be too long.  They are probably right....I'd still call, but its always in the back of my mind.

There are plenty of ways to handle people like that the old fashioned way and without physical confrontation :)

Another reely good thing to do is take pictures of them, the vehichle, and where they are at!

Because once u get a pic of them there is no way for them to get out of it!

Also good to do when u see people dumping garbage!

Sorry for the late update as I just got in from fishing.

I did look at the river before church this morning and visibility was only a few inches so I donot think it will be worth the cost of gas to drive out this way, I will give another update tomorrow, hopefully earlier.

Thanks for the remarks made above.

Water at Peach is still muddy, might have cleared a bit since this morning..... maybe 4" of visibility at most.  I think it still may come up a bit with this hot spell. Hopefully it becomes fishable soon.  ;)
