A hot day on the blue ribbon Bow. July 7 08
« on: July 07, 2008, 11:37:23 PM »

Hello fishers, its been a long while since I have had a big day of fishing like today, but here is a fresh report right from Calgary... I still feel like I am on the boat.

Anyhow, it was a great day of fishing and sight seeing with two friends, and we were rewarded with one of the best days of fishing I have seen in quite a while.  We started out south of the city at about 7:30 and were the second boat on the water luckily.  Seems like most people either have jobs or were at the stampede... (haha, they don't know just how good the fishing was)  ;)  So here is a photo-report for those of you who may one day visit Calgary with plans to fish the Bow.

The starting point: Getting the boat in the water.

Two buddies, Mark and Jo playing an early morning fish...

That was a big one that I didn't catch.  ;D

One of my first fish... Didn't need to get out of the boat for that one.

A couple of nice rainbows.

A really nice brown trout...

Look at the shoulders on this one!

A few more nice rainbows...

Can you guess what they were eating?  Look at the finger...

My big fish of the day.  25 inches!

Seems this guy had a tough life with no lip.  ::)

Some storm clouds eventually caught us, and we had to make a stop...  This storm just circled us and I thought we might even see some funnel clouds.  It was unreal how fast this thing moved through.

An hour of staying dry by the cliffs and we were back on our way.

12 hours, many fish, and one huge storm later, we got a last brown, saw some pelicans, and got off the river.

Our destination: driving away from the river.

You make living in Cowtown look good. Pity I know better ;) Thanks for the report, I'll try to do one from the Oldman when I'm out there in August.

Haha, its true, Cowtown is no good... stay in vancouver... its a 20 minute killer drive to the river  :P

If your down at the old man, might as well check out the crow... water will be prime in august, bring lots of hoppers.

Thanks John, I really enjoyed that. Beautiful pictures, great looking fish and wonderful scenery. Makes one wish he/she were there. I've never fished Alberta yet but after seeing these snapshots I can't wait. Thanks :) :D 8)

Thanks for the report. I will be in that neck of the woods the first week of August for a day or two and then off to Cranbrook for 4 or 5 days to meet up with searun. Will be fly fishing in both areas  ;D

Thanks for such a great pictorial. Superb fish.

The one shot with the one fisherman and boat...looks like a popular spot with the trail well traveled.

Nice fishin guys.
