 today i was skimming through the seafood section and saw pink salmon, i presumed it was from last year and just  thawed out, but tthe looks on them were so nice , bullet chrome and light red flesh , i asked and the clerk said it just arrived today but couldnt say from where, , without this years pink fraser run , where are the commercial fisheries getting theyre pinks  anybody know? by the  way if anyones interested theyre only 7 or 8 bucks  for two small pinks.

Some of the fishmongers at superstore know very little about the fish they are selling.  A couple of weeks ago, I saw a whole bin full of farmed springs labelled as Atlantics.

Fraser is not the only river that has pinks.
Up the Georgia Straight they have pinks on even years.
The fish they sell in stores comes from Skeena, Nass, Kitimat and Alaska(Kenai), ocean etc...

I bought one of theiir "wild springs" about three weeks ago.  The meat was bright, the eyes clear.......after cooking, the meat was mushy and tasted muddy.  I took the uncooked half back and complained.  Serves me right for buying fish from there.

farmed salmon are atlantic salmon,why they farm atlantic salmon on the west coast beats me,last year a bunch escaped from a pen and many were reported caught by sport fisherman.A fisheries person I know caught one on the stave river during a test fishery and soon as they reported it a helicopter came in and took it ,they were told not to talk about it.I guess fish farm money runs deep.

My wife took my fish back and went through the third degree in order to get credited for the fish.  She was so furious that we're done shopping there.

This is very true. I always look through the pink bin whenever I go, you never know what you can find in those bins

It doesn't suprise my that you bought a poor quality fish from superstore.  I made that mistake a couple years ago and will never again purchase any type of meat from that place.

Interesting site,  I like that they only use indigenous species. It sounds like a great alternative to traditional farming though I'd like to look at some independent research.

I thought farms didn't use indigenous species to prevent the transfer of disease to wild stocks.
In fact I'm surprised they are allowed to farm Chinook in Clayoquot sound.
