how long do some of you think sea lice last on fish when the enter fresh water?

24 hrs or so?  Good question - I'd like to know if someone has any more proof.  I see that they change colour as they are in freshwater longer.  Fresh sea lice are quite a deep brown colour in the salt and then go greenish before falling off.

  I saw some pretty colored  chums last year that still had lice on them in the squamish. I would say 5 days?

Don't deal with sea lice too much.  However, what I have found is vague.  It says 2-3 weeks.

this is how me and my dads friend tell how fresh the fish are from sea.

Several years ago I tagged some steelhead in 4 different  rivers, and anywhere from a few days to one fish (in a small creek with a moderate flow) 29 days later still had the same three sea lice on it.

just thought this may interest some people.

I can't say. but I have caught Steelhead in the Tom with lice still on them.

My guess is that until they fall off.  They could be dead after a day or 2 but just stuck to the fish.  When I've cleaned fish some of those suckers really stick to the skin.

i would say a few days...and as for colored fish with sea lice they come in colored..i have caught colored steelhead bucks on vancouver island streams 1 km from the ocean with sealice...and like buddy said jim you ever caught a tom with sea lice

I think its more about water velocity, or distance traveled in faster water. I have removed sea lice after 2 weeks and the still moved.
