Awh Rodney I think found your net at the Y, salomon clip? I meant to grab it on my way back, and I propped it up... But then I went up so far, and took the tracks down, due to excessive rock frustration...

I'm sure it's still there... Bummer!

I think we may go back up this weekend, so I will remember to stop by and pick it up if I get a chance - makes sense why the fish were'nt biting our dries, with Gadsden taggin' em with live bait the day before!!

I got a bit confused after checking the regs and in-season changes (FN550 and FN570) for Chinook retention on the Thopmson near Spences bridge area. Is it that after 9:00pm, Aug 11, retention of chinook jacks is not permitted, but will be permitted again from Aug 22 to Sep 03?

Appreciate for the help on this.

Tee, I was reading the reg before I left to the trip and re-read it again a couple of times this afternoon after your question, not sure if I am less confused than before or not.

From what I have read and interpreted, the entire river is opened for retention of for jack chinook salmon per day, with a few exceptions of slot date openings that allow anglers to retain one adult chinook salmon in this quota of four fish at a couple of specific areas. Outside of these dates (ie. after August 11th), you can still retain four jack chinook salmon per day, just no adult chinook...

Not sure if that helps.

Great report Rod - I appreciate you taking care to capture such great quality photos, and your patience to take time when you coulda been fihing to make the images to share with all.  Your a true asset to our provincial fishing tourism.  The government should be paying you.

Thanks Morty. Glad that you and others have enjoyed the photos, which help to deliver the story. During this trip, I took over 200 photos. I asked Mark how many he took and he said 20. I hooked more fish, just don't have the photos to prove it.

It's made more sense now after reading your post and reading the reg again.

I think the reg would have been much easier to read if it'd also added "retention of Chinook jacks is permitted from when to when".

By the way, do you know any tackle stores in the area that we can check the river's conditions before heading up there?

Nice to know I'm not the only one off his game. I have been camped out at Bighorn since the 3rd and have only managed one in the 20+ inch range so far. If figure it has to be the river level she is up allot higher than usual. I have been watching the tanks rise along the seam out in the center of the river and the spey croud are slaying them. Picked up tonight when I took the kids out fishing at Shaw Springs. Here's hoping for better success over the rest of my vacation.

PS if I had known you guys were at the grove I would have dropped by.
