Fished from 9 to 1 and had one take but was talking on the cell phone and did not get to the rod in time to set the hook.

The minister from my church came out and we fished from 1:30 to 7 with no more bites. Just as we left the 2 rods above us landed a jack and a sockeye.

Most likely 20 rods or so throughout the day and that was as all we saw except two chaps TOWING from a boat had a fish on, not sure if a sockeye or chinook but they lost it while trying to hand line the long leader in.

Water conditions were very good but lots of weeds in the river from a island  that is eroding away upstream a bit.

Some log boom got hung up on some shallows below Island 22 but most of them are still there.





Also talked to 4 chaps from Nova Pacific an environmental firm doing some smolt sampling along Foster Bar in conjunction with a gravel excavation project that may go later this month.

I see there was 86 chinooks taken today in the test Fishery, maybe we will have some success tomorrow.

I think I'll try Peg tomorrow. Haven't taken the 7000 out for awhile. Also gives me a chance to brush up on the penny whistle.

They call this bar that is below Peg in Chilliwack, Foster.

Is Peg crossable now or need a boat to fish it?

From what I saw Friday, Peg won't be crossable this year by foot nor by 4x4.
There's been a channel carved right along that south dyke that's wide & deep enough to fish.

Hi Chris,
I watched the bar-fishing video that Rodney posted. I just wanted to know how long of a leader you use and what kind of weight(pyramid?). I tried this last Sunday just outside of Hope, with no success, but lost my only 3 pyramid weights and spreaders when reeling in to check my bait  . Obviously not in a good spot, but a great day anyways.

Chris is slacking off at the river for the next two nights. The leader length is about 3 ft. Some use even shorter lengths. The weight is the retangular weight used for barfishing, I don't know the exact name for them. Most tacklestores carry them. Depending on the current speed, 14 to 18oz is used.

On a side note. I can never keep my leader from wrapping around the mainline above the spreader. It wraps right up so the spin-n-glow is wound right against the main line. im not sure if it happens when i reel in but it happens about 50-70% of the time.

Ah well, i won't be doing much more barfishing anyway. Moving to castlegar on saturday.

It happens at the cast. You  have to watch the rig hit the water to ensure it landed properly. Usually the cast is too flat when this happens. Try getting a much higher arc. Also, after it settles, listen for the hum of the spin n glo spinning. If it isn't humming, it isn't fishing.
