Double Reds - 64 pounds of fun on the Fraser (Aug 27th)
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:34:31 PM »

Hit the Fraser today with my fishing buddy...yahoo....   ;D

This was actually my the first time out hunting for Big Red's (or any fish for that matter) since my baby boy was born back in April so I had a real sense of anticipation about me.  Upon arrival, I saw that the river conditions after the rain of the last few day's left water visibility at maybe 6 inches, however, the river was not overly large or fast by my estimation (again, first time out, so it's not like I had anything to compare it to).

We arrived bright and early and by 6:30 or so and we started chucking the gear into the drink.  We were not rewarded for the first few hours, save for 2 brief hook ups (neither of which were mine).  Around lunch time, my buddy cleared the lane down the way with a "fish on" call.  This time he had one dead to rights and after a spirited fight he beached a 32 pound Spring.

Not long after, it was my turn and I was able to land his twin brother - a dead match 32 pound buck, a beauty of a silver bright specimen.

All and all, a good day considering there were very few other hook up's spotted, but word on the street was that today seemed slower than it has been...

The less vis the better. The lawn chair athletes are jealous. Nice fish!

I don't mind the heckling...

My comment on the river conditions was more a matter of observation rather than one that had any impact on the fishing itself.

As for beginners luck, that was absolutely it.  I had heard using a 6/0 barbed hook and visciously yanking my rod upward would eventually pay off and it did!  I think I'll have to try the same technique in the Vedder soon...   ::)  (That was a joke btw)

Congrats Taboo for the wonderful catch. You sure had a great day. Fishing is quite good now. Keep it up and don't worry about all the nay sayers. They can enjoy their dozing off or treasure hunting... Take it easy folks. To each its own and enjoy whatever legal methods you choose to enjoy your fishing. ;)

I know!!  I made the sarcastic comment because I found a 6/0 barbed hook in a bush behind me.  Apparently whoever was operating the rod didn't know how to cast with his leader and snared it up in the bush.

Never ceases to amaze me what people leave behind.... with the stuff I either picked up or cleaned up, I bet I actually came out with probably $15 of usable stuff!!
