Crayfish in Pitt River
« on: August 31, 2008, 04:54:45 PM »

I was wanting to find out where I could catch some crayfish as my son and I have built a crayfish trap and have had great success at Jones Lake but want to continue in the Pitt Meadows area

Thanks

Pretty much any of the river systems around the lower mainland have some crayfish. The Stave is a popular location, but I'm sure you'd get them in the Pitt too.

I personally haven't dropped traps in the Stave. But it is a very short river system below the dam. I'm sure you'd get them pretty much anywhere.

The alouette rivwer used to have lots when I was a kid 20 years ago, but I think with pollution development and overfishing there isn't very many left if any,   I can remember going down tuning over 10 rock and finding 4 or 5 nice crayfish 4 - 6 inches now i could turn rocks over for an hour and not see one, I know where the alouette meets the pitt used to be a goos spot

They are really really good. Taste is a lot more fishy than lobster I guess.
