Vedder Report for Sept 6th 2008
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:52:54 PM »

Got to the river around 7:00am and took about 15minutes to change while enjoying the scenery around us.

Where we parked, we saw a few fishers hard at work trying to get the fish to bite but we saw nothing. We walked about 10 minutes and got to the spot we wanted to fish. River looks good- still a a tad high but colour was just incredible. Three guys were fishing across us and we saw about 6-7 guys fishing about 300 yards down below us. In the meantime, we had the whole run to ourselves.

Khin and I tried for about an hour but no taker. Given the water conditions, we felt that fish must be lurking around.

I walked above Khin and made a few casts and lo and behold, my float took a quick dip during one of my many drifts. I set the hook firmly and the fight was on. She took off and my centerpin kept peeling lines like no tomorrow...bzzzbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! I had to hold it hard a few times because she kept trying to run down the fast rapids.

At one point the fish got tangled with some under water "something" and I thought she got away. After a bit of manoeuvring, I was able to untangle whatever it was. She took a few more runs but finally succumbed to the battle.

This is the result of the fight.

The guy accross us hooked one too but it got off quickly. I also saw a nice coho jumped infront of us.

Nice catches guys.

My wife was driving across the Vedder canal on Hwy 1 about 9 am and saw and fisher carrying and walking across the bridge about a 30 lb Spring ...chromer.  She was so excited she had to phone me about it.

I only got one spring in July now it is time to get some clean brutes for the smoker.

Fished for half an hour this evening, caught a pikeminnow and saw a couple spring jacks roll down near Peach Rd.

Adriaticum, was that 9 pounder a white spring? Have you got any more pictures of that fish by any chance? Just curious.

HAHAHA, laugh it up... While you were in the Kootenays catching & releasing, I was in Hyder Alaska harvesting 10 ocean bright springs and prawns the size of your arm! ;D I guess you would have a good recipe for pikeminnow, I saw all the pictures of your lower Fraser forays!  :o

You know that's a very good question.
There is a good post on that topic started by Armytruck in the General section. They are all kind of red/white.
I went out today to again and got 2 'jacques' around 4 and 5 lbs.
Here is what their meat looks like.
I don't know if these are white or red. They are a mixed breed, if there is such a thing.
