Coho on the spey
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:49:11 PM »

I have only been spey fishing a year now and only when I can with two small ones at home.  It has been a lot of fun getting into Chum and pretending to catch steelhead.  I have had a little success for coho on the single hander, but is it completely counter productive trying to fish coho water with a spey?  Does anyone here do it?  A small bit of advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Tj

Fishing "frog water" with a double hander won't be your most productive method to catch coho. You will need to find swinging water that coho will rest in.....big tailouts, riffles etc....I have caught lots of coho swinging flies for steelhead in the Skeena systems, as well as on the Vedder. It's just not the most productive method......A little twitch in your swing won't hurt..... ;)
