I mysely stick to a floating line,and let your fly do a full swing before stripping in line,I cought a coho with 2 flys stuck on his finn,nice ones too,I figured I would let him keep them.Last week I did hook into a springs finn it does happen. Best break Them off I figure.

Another thing that helps avoid snagging them in the fin or tail when the fish are in thick is to either use circle hooks or to bend the point of the hook slightly toward the shank with a pair of pliers.  I haven't found that this leads to fewer successful hookups from legitimate bites, and it prevents having to battle a fish hooked in the fin or tail with fly gear.

I had some problems accidentally snagging chums on the Vedder yesterday morning.   (Found a spot that was loaded with them).

Anyway, I did what you suggested and bent the hook towards the shank like you suggested - it worked a treat and I did manage to get legit hookups even with the hook bent back like that.  Thanks a lot for that tip Snag-a-lot.
