I got a call from Denis last night and as he can only fish weekends he asked me to take him up. We met up a Tims at 6:45 and I took him to the "hot spot", the conditions were improved from yesterday. It was a bit chilly, near 0 I thought. We made our first cast at first light and I missed a fish on the first drift but the next chance was a long time coming. A chap came into the the run on the otherside of the run using roe bags and lost two fish on his first two casts, the first being a nice coho.

Finally the bite started and I had a long battle with a chum salmon approaching 18 pounds fairly clean for a buck and the teeth were just starting to grow. Dennis missed 5 in a row and I had a few chances as well including losing one. I then landed a fresh run doe in the 10 pound range.

We fished to about 10:30 and then we went for breakfast, no not Cookies as they are closed on Sunday.

After breakfast we took a run up to the hatchery and stopped at a couple of runs on the way including the Tamahi Rapids, very little garbage and few fish by reports we were given, saw none on the beach.

Next stop was the Cement Slabs, lots of garbage and lots of people working the area and lots watching the show. We saw some dark chum salmon caught all not inside the mouth. I also had to remind 3 people in the Limits Hole there was no fishing allowed there at this time.

We then pulled into the hatchery and as Buck said not that many coho as there should be, snapped a photo of those in the channel. I think we will not see an increase in the amount of coho being caught this year as the run is poor and I believe nearing its end, if it really started. It is now mostly just a chum salmon fishery. In the 4 areas we stopped at during the day the only coho I saw on or caught was at where we started fishing.



Our final cleanup area was below the Vedder Bridge and got one half a bag full and a few more tins.
Saw more fish laying on the river edge including one jack spring, the rest chum salmon. In the 10 minutes we were there we saw one bright hen landed that was caught under the chin and retained.


Our day ended around 3 o'clock, a beautiful Fall day enhanced by the turning of the leaves, some good fellowship and we did our part cleaning up some garbage dropped by some careless users of the Chilliwack Vedder River.

The coho season is just taking off for me.

I can't wade over there... On my way back on Thursday I almost drifted down to the canal.

You don't have to wade across thr river at all. You can access it from the other side.
Well, just a little bit of wading across the opening - it's shallow and easy.

Yeah I know. We usually park on the Chilliwack side because Chris is paranoid that someone would take his Leaf Mobil. Maybe I'll give it a go on Tuesday, but I might just head further up to a run where I was certain there would be coho in it.

Nice fish Milo!!!  I also agree with you.  I hit 2 Coho on my last 2 casts of the day then packed it in without seeing if there were anymore in there.  Wanted to book it out of there before anyone saw me hitting Coho.  Then my secret little spot wouldn't have been so secret.
