Squamish River, October 25th 2008
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:24:38 PM »

Squamish River is practically void of chum.  :(
Where we once could almost "walk on their backs" (that's how many there were), in a period of two hours we saw only 2 rises today.
Surprisingly, there were a lot of people fishing - not a single one caught from 7-9:30 AM. We checked a total of three spots upstream from Brackendale.

Very sad. I hope they are late, but it doesn;t seem to be the case. All chum are were they are supposed to be, except in the Squamish.
That run is seriously compromised.
I hope DFO closes the river completely, or at least for retention.

On a brighter note, we drove to the Vedder and had a great afternoon catching chum and coho on the fly. :)

I live very conveniently located in East Van near the PNE. Once I take McGuill, it's just a matter of heading east or west on HWY 1.  ;D

And the key word in my post is "we".
In times of recession, commuting with buddies is the way to go! ;)

Thanks for the reports. Was thinking of heading up there tomorrow. Think I'll head out to the valley tomorrow instead.

There are not lots of chum in the Cheakamus. There are fish pooled at at the Frog Pond and a couple of other small areas but that is it. The river should be ram jam full but it and all of the other Squamish areas streams are not. It should be closed to chum retention ASAP.
