« on: October 30, 2008, 05:29:12 PM »

Anyone know of a reasonable spot to put in a pontoon without too much difficulty at the slough?

thanks

Reasonable would be at the boat launch at the mouth. But if you have any beef on the bone you could launch a a lot of other places by carrying it down the dike sides. I forgot to mention up at Deroch it's easy there. My pug could launch a pontoon there.

Troutbreath....how long do you think it would take to float down from Deroch to the dewdney boat launch in a pontoon? I saw some guys putting theirs in last weekend at the launch. Been thinking about going ever since? That is a long stretch it might take a long time huh? ??? ???

You might find the water too low to drift all the way to the mouth. And it's pretty dalm muddy to push or pull the craft along those sections. But you may want to launch at both areas during one outing. Otherwise it's about 4 hour paddle with fishing minimum.

Only for trailered boats.Pontoon boat no problem. If it is really low the fish tend to stack up in the Fraser which usually isn't running too fast there that you can't paddle around. Bring an anchor and stay in the slough close to it if it's running fast. And really scope the place out when you  drive in there so you know where the fish are holding out. If your paddling, I highly recommend scoping the place out unless you like more paddling and less fishing.

Is there a charge to launch there?

The only time you might be able to drift from Deroche to the boat launch would be on a very high tide. Even then in certain spots you would have to do some walking. The top end is so choked with weeds Pontooning would be a pain. Stick to the lower and avoid the grief.

No charge for launching a boat.

T B great info, thanks. I'm expecting tight lines at the slough with the rain on the way this weekend. There will be fish everywhere on the north side this week ... got to check the tides... 3.5  - 4 hrs for the high based on tides @ New West.  Is that about right??

I think low tide is early morning, 3+ or - so expect a low tide up there at daybreak. I guess with some netting out there that it could influence the numbers showing up but what the heck it's better to fish than cut bait (or pass wind from eating so many haloween chocolates) I just got my outboard serviced again so I am probably going for the mouth of the Vedder. Rain will definately bring in those smileys.

Well I got out yesterday...unfortunately I didn't see any fish :(
Even in the wind on the incoming tide around 11-2 yesterday I had no problems rowing up the slough. Lovely spot for the boat!
Just needed to be higher up I think and didn't want to row that far. I hear guys also do well putting in at the bridge. But the launch was easy :)
