Green Timbers Lake, Some fishermen are confused as to the Reg's.
« on: November 20, 2008, 01:11:55 PM »

I was at Green Timbers Lake yesterday doing a gear review for J Woodbury reels. www.jwoodburyreels.com

When I was there I saw some fishermen casting from shore, and others wading in the water. There are signs stating that no one is allowed into the water, but the freshwater regulations do not say anything about this. I wanted to find out what was going on so I got in contact with the green Timbers Urban forest Heritage Society yesterday VIA E-Mail.

So basically if you go there and hassle the ducks your on their s&%t list (as someone did once). Well I won't do that then. Sounds like they have it out for Flyfishing so that should be a no-no there in their books.

Green Timbers Lake is somewhat unique when it comes to regulations as there currently are irregularities in the rules set out by the City of Surrey and the BC Ministry of Environment. In addition to provincial regulations, the city has implemented additional regulations to the lake, such as no boats and wading. It also has a different daily quota implemented (1 per day) than the regional daily quota of trout implemented by the BC Ministry of Environment. Ministry staff have recognized this irregularity and they recently had a meeting with the City to fix it. The outcoming of the initial meeting is to change the daily quota to two trout per day. This is supported by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. In addition, the society will increase stocking numbers for Green Timbers Lake so combining the two may improve the quality of fishing. My understanding is this trial daily quota will come in effect next spring when spring stocking resumes. If there are other irregularities that need to be addressed, bring them up and I'll pass them onto my contacts so they can be addressed at future meetings.

The current limit will remain as 1 fish per day until the trial daily quota comes in effect.

HMMM  :-\ I was under the understanding we werent allowed to wade into the water because when the lake was made they used the wrong soil/sand and when you stir it up it stays suspended in the water for hours moving around like a huge cloud choking off everything in its path. I have seen this happend (not killing anything i could see though) but was ahuge cloud from kids swimming that took about 6hours to finally settle. I was told this by a parks person there to check people that were fishing.
