Anybody know anything about the Kitamat?
« on: November 23, 2008, 10:48:07 AM »

I'm looking at the possibility of being stuck in Kitamat for a few days next week, as I'll be packing my steelhead rod I was just wondering if anyone on this site is familiar with the Kitamat River or perhaps the Lakelse at this time of year. As we're going up there totally blind to local haunts any info would be welcomed and appreciated. thx.

Well its snowing like crazy at this moment, then it will turn to rain and create a disgusting mess.  I have only been hear a year but the steelhead dont generally show up up till late March with April and early May being prime.  Cutthroat fishing can be really good this time of year though.

Depending on the roads, you could drive to Terrace and try the Copper or Kalum if you are wanting steelhead.  The lakelse should have some steelhead as well as plenty of cutthroat and dollies.

That's no not being stuck, that's an opportunity.
Kitimat is one of the best fishing rivers in BC.
Look for a guy named Rob Vodola.
Google him.

This is a great site, and Rob is in lots of pics.  I don't know him personally, but he seems to be in every pic from up in that area.

Talk to Ron at Home Hardware. He has always given good and true info to us when in Kitimat.
