Semi Truck In Vedder Canal
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:04:33 PM »

Apparently the West Bound Lanes at The Vedder Canal is blocked as a semi truck has crashed through the guard rail and is in the Vedder Canal. While out shoveling snow numerous cars going by our house and people stopped asking for directions around the blockage. Some told me another truck and cars involved too.

I just got back from a coffee at Tims and the  traffic is still backed right up to Lickman Road. The Master phoned and he was caught up in it too trying to get to the river to fish but it will be dark time he gets there. ::) Some people were turning around in the West Bound lanes and coming up the shoulder heading East and up the ramp the wrong way at Lickman. ???

I always listen to CKWX 1130 and most of the time you can miss getting caught up in these delays.

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) - Emergency crews are on the scene of a serious multi car crash in on Highway 1 near Chilliwack.

Tom was at the scene and tells News1130 a semi-trailer jackknifed on the Vedder Canal Bridge.

“There's a jack-knifed 18 wheeler on the bridge...there's an 18 wheeler in the water, in the river."

Chilliwack RCMP Constable Lea-Anne Dunlop says the driver of the semi that went over got out OK and was on the hood of the truck by the time rescue crews arrived.

"He suffered minor injuries only and none of the other occupants of either the other semi or one other vehicle that was involved were injured in the incident."

The highway will be closed west bound for a number of hours so the semi trucks can be removed and the safety of the bridge can be evaluated.  The cause is now under investigation.

I was going to go for a photo for you but I am sure there will be coverage on the TV evening news tonight.

No fish are going to get past that rig for the next couple days. ::) News 730 is a good place to get traffic updates too.

There is tons of room for fish to get by. Tomorrow I think will be a good bet. Water is rising a bit and will cloud up a bit. Raining good right now so there will be frshies tomorrow  ;)
