Skagit River (Washington), December 28th 2008
« on: December 28, 2008, 05:16:31 PM »

great day steelheading the skagit river in washington.
three of us went to the skagit to try fishing for some steelies.

7 hours of fishing produced: 1 landed wild steelhead(released), 3 steelies long lined relased, 3 dollys, 1 silver chum salmon (sorry no pic but surprisingly really silver), 1 sucker, 1 whitefish. (all fish were released)

technique was side drift fishing (bottom bouncing from a boat while drifting), with roe and a small corkie.

weather was decent. some rain and temp around -1 to +2. water temperature warmed up to 40degree F.

first time fishing for steelhead in the states.

sorry i used to be able to copy the photobcket link for a picture but it is not working.

That's a big river. What area were you fishing? Did you see any other people landing fish?

we were fishing up past rockport above the sauk river.

about ten other boats. it seemed as if all boats had hooked into something and many were cleaning fish at the boat launch.

How was the road up? You launch at the steelhead park? Did you head up river towards marblemount or stay around Rockport??

launched at miller steelhead park and fished right in front of the park. also headed down river a bit.
great river and not a whole lot of pressure.

since the thompson was closed i thought i would try a different river.

roads were good....but you are talking to someone who will drive 3 hours to the thompson in blizzard conditions for a days fishing.
