Definitely a cutthroat trout based on the orange slash under the jaw. I even slashed the throat a bit to let some blood out to show that it was a cutt. ;D

The only rainbow trout that I have seen down in the Fraser estuary are juvenile steelhead that are about to undergo smoltification. Actually, this is the time of the year when they are quite abundant down here.

I think it depends on where they live most of their lives. Most of the cutties I have caught in or around the ocean have been greenish silver, but in darker waters they tend to be quite dark I agree.

Coastal cutthroat trout usually begin to emerge in the Tidal Fraser River around mid August and their abundance increases in October when fall salmon move into the river. These fish are usually as silver as the one shown in my previous post. I would like to suggest that these fish are moving in from the ocean, but there are no sampling done on this to provide a definite answer. Like many other species, the colouration is affected by the quality of the stream discharge and substrate.

Caught it this morning at around 6:30am beside the No.3 docks in Richmond. Saw quite a few risers and jumpers for the first hour then died down around 8am.

Chinook jack?  Hmm - sorry Lucky - but that looks like a beautiful pink ya got there.  Small scales, and rather large "blotches" on the tail.  I could be mistaken - I don't want to start a huge debate here!  Regardless, nice job.
