circle hooks?

 I was looking at some Owner circle hooks on ebay and was wondering if anyone has experience with these?

The Owner circle hooks are great well heck they are owner . Depending on what you want to use them for ? They have a few other styles of them too ,im not to sure what they are but very neat hooks.By far No 1 hook on the market  :)

I forgot to say my only experience witht he circle hook was fishing Halibut never did I use it for another fishery

I have used Owner circle hooks for Halibut.. Don't know which model you looking at, but the off shore series that i used are Semi circle with cutting point.. They are the sharpest and strongest hook that i have ever used...

thanks for the replies, I was looking at the #2's for steelhead/salmon. I have only used Gami's which I thought were the premium, but it would be cool to try these hooks out and see how they work.

In my opinion, i don't think circle hook is too suitable for salmon fishing unless you planning to bar fish...

Even bar fishing is not that ideal.  I've tried float fishing with it but you got to have really quick reflex to set the hook before fish spit it out.  The hook is shaped that the best angle to have a successful hookset is up and down like jigging.

yeah, i did a little reading up on the Owner website and they recommend them for "lip sets" which is supposed to be great for catch and release fisheries. I guess the theory being that the small point on the hook catches on the lip of the fish, however they do not recommend them for salmon/steelhead. I still want to try out the Owner octopus style hooks though.

 Agreed ssabnik, Tried a bunch of different circles for salmon in the last couple years and Mustad Demon Circle Hooks (Extra fine wire with an upturned eye) are by far the best for preventing foul hooking fish when they are there in great numbers. Lets you get through the boots to the biting fish.  ;D  Had a small handful of foul hookups this year.

keep the cirlce hooks for halibut, and jsut use regular needle point for steelhead/salmon .if you are ever heading down south to fish check out the off shore series  :)
