Flies for Fins Fundraiser
« on: January 20, 2009, 07:09:02 PM »

Fly tyers, pay attention now. How much are your flies worth? Here is a fantastic chance for you to find out!

"Flies for Fins" Fundraiser is a new program that motivates you to explore your creativity and raise fund for the future of BC's steelhead.

Here is what you have to do:

Tie up some of your favorite fly patterns and mail your finished flies in (mailing address will be provided for you by emailing info@fishingwithrod.com or joining this Facebook group).

Your flies will then be displayed on a cork board and sold at one of the local participating fishing stores. Proceeds generated will be donated to the Steelhead Society of BC.

Four stores will be participating in this program:

  • Reaction Fly and Tackle
  • Pacific Angler Fly and Tackle
  • Michael and Young Fly Shop
  • Whistler Flyfishing

Please feel free to send in one fly, or ten! Make them as fancy or as plain as you would like. Please include your name with the finished products.

Fantastic idea! But since I don't tie flys I guess I will just have to BUY some from them. Do you know when they will be available?

I was told there is no cutoff for recieving flies but i didnt ask as to when the flies wil be up for sale. I would imagine as soon as she gets enough flies to distribute them to all the shops involved they will be out there. Be sure to check out the pictures gallery of just some of the flies up for sale  ;D

Had an update on this fundraiser tonight and I've brought forward the questions that some of you had.

Do they have to be steelhead flies?

All types of flies are welcome, not just steelhead flies.

Fantastic idea! But since I don't tie flys I guess I will just have to BUY some from them. Do you know when they will be available?

The flies are just starting to arrive in the mail this week (some are coming from as far as Japan!) so they are just being filled on the boards right now. Once that is done, they will be available at the stores. When that happens, I will post an update again.

The boards at all the store are full of flies right now, just need people to buy them.
