Forgive my ignorance (I'm a fly guy), but I don't see many spinning reels on the flow.

How do you find float fishing using a spinning reel?
Do you leave the bail open and feed line to keep the float in the seam, or use more of a swing technique?
If the former how do you set the hook? holding the line with your finger or do you quickly close the bail?

many anglers south of us use spinning reels, especially when drifting jigs. best method is giving it a drag free drift, leaving the bale open and pumping the rod

I actually unlock the the reel so u can spin it backwards... and let it drift down.. as i hit a fish i'll hang on the handle and flip the lock  back right away..i dont leave the bail open. Gotten use to it.. I'm planning on a new rod and reel combo.. going to put the spinning reel to rest..: ).. slowly learning and getting out of the novice stage!!!

Going to make a trip out tomorrow!

I remember that is how I did it my very first time on the vedder, I never landed a steelhead with it though, that is quite the skill (float fishing with a spinning reel).

lots of americans float fish with spinning rods...nothing wrong with that although you wont get the same amount of line control compared to a LW or CP.

Looking at your rod, I think based on the handle style (longer foregrip) you could probably put a centerpin on it and do just fine.  If you have never casted a baitcaster or a centerpin then I think you could probably go either way and end up with identical results.  At least if you stick a CP on your current rod you can save a few $$s too.

I was checkin out a couple of them quickly at Fred's when i headed out there this morning. I one of the guys there was showing me a center pin.. it looked crazy.. but I think im digging the bait caster a littlre.. i can't remember the exact name... started with  a "C" clooney? lol probably.. not.. n e ways.. i'm thinking of  bait caster when i come back from my trip!!! pretty excited to learn how to use it!!

went out today.. and SKUNKED!!! dayam.. dind't leave till ike 330.. was out there for like 9 am..

i think the pin would do well, if ur looking to float fish all the time, if u want to throw spoons and spinners then a baitcaster would be the better choice
