fishing the beaches of UBC?

I live in the UBC area and I have never seen anyone fishing the beaches but I would like to know if it can be an option this time of year. If anyone has any info on this t would be much appreciated.

Sandy bottom areas should have flounders. Also should be good during smelt season but you will need a net. If you like crabbing, Jericho pier should be a good spot which was what I used to do when I lived in that area.

I've cycled out that way for decades and have spent days just sitting watching the light change/water ripple.

Rarely see a fish around but it does happen  late in the fall and they usually aren't feeders.

The big tide changes over those huge sandy flats mean the area isn't all that attractive to Salmonids (I guess because of dirty water), sometimes in July/August you'll see pods of Coho or Pinks moving fast/busting bait but too far from shore for casting.

Sometimes a person sees a Cutt or two but the few times I've tried I got ZIP.

Can a guy crab from shore? I would assume you need deep water. 60 70 feet. I dont own a boat nor have access to one.

It will be hard to cast a trap from shore for crabs. The Jericho Beach Park Pier is there for crabbers. Used to be very good, but some poachers over the years took too much under-sized crabs or killed way over the daily limit, so it may not be good now. I have not fished there for eons of time since moving away from that area.

It's really gone downhill. It's a zoo down there. Crab lines everywhere on sunny days.

too bad. I would assume that people would really have to over crabb for them to decline like that. shame.
