After my last fly fishing expedition in -15c with arctic outflows going on I decided this morning would be a great time to go out fishing. Hopped on my bicycle and rode the 5km from my house to the river.

Was fishing with a gibbs spoon on a lightweight rod just probing around for fish. Ended up catching a couple nice cutthroat trout right by the fishermans park in the pool there. Satisfied I hopped backed on my bicycle and rode home. Word is the eulachon are starting to come in and soon the larger cutthroats should be coming into the rivers to start chasing the fry. Still steelhead in the rivers but I haven't run into any yet.

Should be a ton of steelhead right now.  Theres the summer and fall run fish over wintering plus its just about time for some fresh run spring chromers. I may be out there tommorow.

Yup the crazy fishing season is almost here, the springs will start coming soon!  I haven't fished the kalum river much just because I am not really sure of access spots. Gonna have to take a ride out there and scout it out more. Usually concentrate my fishing on the skeena/lakelse and copper. Though this year I am promising myself to spend more time exploring the kalum and kitimat river fisheries.

Hard part of being here is just getting the time to go out fishing! If the wife doesn't need something done then it's the boss, haha
OH well, headed to Gingolx this weekend to see how the crabs are right now and do some pier fishing

well its tolerable.  Theres up and downs to living up here.  While the fishing is great, the winter months have been a long haul, rivers frozen, snow measured in feet, not centimeters followed by torential rain creating a nice slushy disaster.  But thats almost over, big spring steelies on the Kitimat is just around the corner as well as other rivers.

Im starting a job up at Gingolx probably early spring when the snow melts im a sheet metal worker doing the rec center on the first nations reserve up their. Is the any accessable water by foot around their? What kind of fish can I run into?And what kind of gear should I bring?I have no clue about the area but it sounds like its going to be hard to get any work done.

There are lots of good flows in Nisga country, the 2 closest to Gingolx are the Kincolith and the Ishgineech (sorry for the spelling on that one- funny it's not in spell check  ).

Stop by the lava beds memorial park info center if it is open and take some time to talk to the elders there, they are very helpfull if you are respectfull and take the time to listen. They let me in on some good local knowledge of fishing holes that I had never heard of and even told me about a beautiful hot spring that Kim and I really enjoyed our visit to!

Enjoy your time up there it is fantastic, wild country!
