PumpkinHead Fly
« on: March 14, 2009, 10:57:40 AM »

I am really interested in trying this fly but I can't find any info on this fly. I've been looking for the material list for this fly and I can't seem to find it anywhere online. ??? This fly looks like a good one to try. Could anyone please help me out and let me know what I need to make this beauty. Thanks in advance and tight lines

#12 or 10 hook 3x long down eye
Olive marabou
Brurnt Orange Grizzly Hackle
Orange Bead
you can add some flash with crystal chenille down the body if you like
As well you can wrap a rib around the hackle if you like

Where can I find the beads? Would Michaels be a good place to look? How about BeadSmart. Also what size of bead to look for.

thanks.

thanks.

8/0 bead and Micheals does not carry them. Bead works in port moody does. And yes it does have to be "orange silver lined" as it is the most effective by far.

Here's my first attempt.  I may have gone a tad heavy on the hackle, but we'll find out come trout season.

If you strip the hackle from one side of the feather it will make a better fly. The hackle will then move easier in the water. Other than that they look great.

Actually Hook the body is the top portion that is  left over from the tail. It is twisted together then wraped forward to make the body.

That's where I went to. They have lots of colors. Cheap compared to your local fly shop.
