Fly Fishing the Vedder
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:59:20 AM »

I am planning to try some fly fishing on the Vedder/Chilliwack in May and have not fly fished there before.  Any suggestions on the best places to fly fish for steelhead.

I was flyfishing the Vedder yesterday with my single hander.
Starting tomorrow the Vedder is fly fishing only below Vedder Crossing (closed to all fishing above).
There are lots of great pools from the Vedder Crossing to the Canal so you're going to have to do some walking. In fact there are no bad stretches of water, so pick any access point and start walking.
Obviously the easier access the more people there will be. Peach Rd, Lickman Rd, and Keith Wilson Bridge will have the most people, but walking even a few hundred metres will give you some space.
Yesterday I saw 1 other person fishing all day (a couple were practicing spey casting but not really fishing). There was a car at 3 or 4 other access points in the upper and mid river.
Good luck.
