Hi Guys,

Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone out there! I'm fairly new to fishing, I've been using my parents 20$ reel/rod combo for the past year or so. I'm typically trying to fish what ever that bites  However, I do have plans to try to fish for trout this year.

I'm currently looking for a new reel/rod/everything... I've just picked up the Shimano Bob Izumi Signature Pro Series Fishing Rod (Length: 6'0", Line: 4-10lb, Lure: 1/16 - 3/8oz, Power: Medium Light, Action: Fast) and is now looking for a reel.

I was planning to pick up the Shimano Sidestab 2500 but then I saw the Quantum Array at Canadian Tire on sale for 35$ (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Fishing/Reels/PRDOVR~0785957P/Quantum%2BArray%2526%2523153%2BSpinning%2BReel.jsp). I was just wondering which reel would be a better fit for my rod?

Any other suggestions on reels would be greatly appreciated!

I was looking at a 5'6 rod as well but couldn't decided which one to get. I opt for the 6'0 just because I didn't want to go too small. I figured the set up I have now is not a complete over kill for trout / tidal fish. Plus it gives me the option to go bigger if I wanted too...

I totally agree with what your saying. I read through most of Rod's articles (if not all) and others about light spincasting gear. But I went with what I got simply because of budget and limited choices (Canadian Tire/WalMart)

Plus I was thinking, if i ever decided to go for some other types of fish (fresh or salt water), possibly bigger than a pound, I wouldn't need to get new gear. I guess you can't be too cheap when it comes to fishing!

I still have a lot to learn. I really appreciate your 2 cents, since you're the only who's replying!

That makes sense. I thought the diameter of the spool only affected how much line you can have... 

Well, since I've already picked up the sidestabe 2500, what would happen if I were to cast 1/8oz spoons/spinners?

The offer is valid in the States and Canada. You have to pay $7.95 for s&h. I ordered a spool of their braided line online (don't know if it's carried in the local tackle shops), and have sent away for the reel.

you won't cast as far as you were using smaller sppol reel such as 1000 size or 500 size

personally, i use spoons 1/16oz and under since the stocked fish are not that big and big fish bite on it as well

and in fact I can use your set up for pink salmon!
