Chilliwack River, July 18th 2009
« on: July 18, 2009, 05:07:19 PM »

Well had my first day out today, and not much of anything going on.  One guy had one at the vedder river campground, and a guy lost one at the slab.  Only seen one fish rise all day. :-\

I was out today for the first time since March. Went to the upper river and started a wee bit late, around 6 am. Worked several runs, no bites, didn't see any fish either.
Then went lower to my "old faithful" spot and lo and behold I saw some fish rise. It was already late and the sun was shining bright but I got some new enthusiasm.
After about half an hour I had one on finally. I got it in the tailout at the end of the drift and I didn't really expect it nor set the hook properly.
I felt about half a dozen head shakes and my rod was bent nicely.
But it wasn't meant to be. The hook wasn't set properly and when he darted toward me the hook fell out.
Whole 5 seconds of fun.
So I have to go back to get him ;)

A bunch of guys were coming down the river in dingies and went under a log jam.
One guy got stuck pretty good, but made it out alive.
Just the look on his face was newsworthy.

Caught the one that got away yesterday.
Turns out it was around 21 lbs.  ;D ;D
Roe was the ticket.

Hooked 1 Saturday morning first cast and lost it. Third cast nailed another one and went home with a nice 20lb doe. Myself and a friend both lost one each this morning. Mornings before 7:30am seems to be the ticket. Been skunked the 2x in the evenings that I have been out.
