Is Stokes Pit (Latimer) fishable?
« on: August 01, 2009, 05:42:28 PM »

I've got a 3-1/2 year old grandson - lives in Langley - that is asking about going out fishing.  I've heard that Stikes pit was good for kids in the past.  Does anyone know if it has refilled with water and is fishable now?

it has been refilled with water but i talked to the fisheries guys at the Tradex Fish & Game show last year and they said it most likely wont be getting stocked again. Apparently it still has lots of sunfish and carp though so it could be worth taking a peek at especially in this heat because those fish love the heat LOL

:o hey i live 1 block from the pit and it is full of junk and very little water. used to be a great spot to fish a few yrs ago but with cut backs and all they do not stock it anymore. there is another good spot in surrey you might want to try i think it is green timbers they do stock that one and it is great for the little ones to fish. i'm looking for a good spot to take my 9 yr old grandson too also. let me know if you find a good spot for the wee ones to fish. cheers  8)

I live in cloverdale and go fishing up there when i only have a half hour or so.  lots of sunfish some quiet large and the thing is fulllll of largemouth bass when the water is higher no problem catching 10-20 in that short time  just use a tiny bit of worm on a size 14 or smaller hook and you will have no problem hooking up just throw out without weight or use a float  .water is very low right now but was up there  and still lots of sunfish cruising around  and bass thing is full of them  hope this helps .  your grandson should have a blast .  pm  me if want any more info.

Thanks Guys - went over there today and it was like an oven on that sand.  Water is pretty low and lots of algae growing in there with this heat.

On another note - it looks like reallclean sand/aggregate there.  Why don't they pull more out of there instead of the Fraser and make Latimer a decent recreational lake?

I went this morning with my girlfriend and two sons aged 2 1/2 and 1 my older son caught his first fish today probably a 2 oz sunfish LOL had 1 every cast it got boring quick but we got him his first fish and i think hes hooked now.Nothing was bigger than a quarter to half pound, didnt see any bass but we did see a huge turtle catching some sun.Ive only lived here for about 3 1/2 years but i can imagine how that lake might have been before i think its a shame to let a place like that basically go to waste hopefully something will give and it will be restored.Indeed it is a good place for the youngins still

A little ways off but maybe try Lafarge lake in PoCo. They stock it regularly.

Lafarge hasnt been stocked since June and wont be stocked again until October i think. check www.gofishbc.com for updates on stockings and look at years past also to give you an idea of when it will be done this year.

Hah I guess my definition of regularly is 3-4 times a year. Anyways what i meant was one is much more likely to catch a trout in Lafarge than Latimer.

well i took the dogs for a walk down there tonight. Not alot of fishable water left. I did not see one thing swimming around but i'm sure the dogs didn't help. As I was leaving a couple guys were going in for carp and they say they catch them so I will have to giver another go some day. I hope it rains soon.

The bucket brigade seems to be every where. Even bass caught in a lafarge lake test fishery..
