2009 Fraser River pink salmon
« on: August 11, 2009, 04:25:54 PM »

When do they arrive?  I know that there are lots in the area, Howe Sound ect. but I am looking forward to the Fraser Pinks as I work in a business park right on the river in Burnaby at the base of Boundary Rd.  Can't wait to just walk down to the river after work!

Any ideas?

I've seen them in good numbers by the third week of August.  It might be worth it to start looking for them a bit earlier during the incoming tides in the lower Fraser if you are really keen about Fraser pinks, otherwise wait till they're in larger numbers.

Cheers,

Depending on where on the Fraser River you intend to target pink salmon, the run typically peaks between August 25th and September 10th. The earliest I've encountered them in the Tidal Fraser River was August 17th in 2007, but the run for that year seemed to be earlier than usual as the season ended much sooner than anticipated.

Also, if you fishing downstream from New West, pink salmon typically enter South Arm first. The bulk of the run also goes through South Arm.

Pinks are already in the system now, just not in any great numbers but they will be getting more abundant.

x2!

Incoming tide at two different spots, not a bad number of fish moving either.

Fished near the Port Mann this evening. Threw some pink gear for a bit. Nothing >:(. Saw one seal and one fish boil. Can't wait for some good numbers to enter the river.

While we are on the subject, here is a write-up from a couple of years ago for those who have never tried this fishery before.

Musqueam and Tsawwassen First Nations' chinook salmon fishery, from Noon today until Sunday Noon.

A few pinks showed their dorsal further downstream during the incoming tide today.
