If you spend some time there, (whether you time the tides or not) you are going to catch fish.
During the incoming tide, fish are still coming up the river in schools and will stop close to shore at times.
There are several types of lures that you can use.
buzzbomb - works well - change to a single hook (don't use the treble hook in the package)
spoon - curved metal lure, pink with a white stripe, also works well
spinner - pink/red body with a silver blade, have seen other people do well with this.
Just about any kind of fishing rod will do.
I've seen guy catch fish on anything from tiny trout rods to big meat sticks for halibut.
The lighter the line, (lower lb test rating) the better the cast you will get (10lb is ideal).
You need to be able to cast about 50ft.
If you can't cast a lure by itself, add a small weight 2 or 3 ft above the lure - use a swivel to hold it.
If found a very 'un-snaggy' combination is a barrel weight used with the setup above.
The barrel shaped weight doesn't seem to snag as much as the pencil weight.
Cast our, let it drop for a few seconds and slowly reel it in.
Bring a net and a cooler (with ice) and you'll have a good pink fishing experience.
